Nov SL Librarians Staff Meeting

25 November 2007

Today, the Librarians of Second Life held their monthly staff meeting on the sim of Infotainment Island.  Rather than have various people provide update reports on their projects, we brainstormed ideas for activities in the upcoming year.  Some ideas included hosting educator conferences, a poetry festival, author events, guided tours, special classes about SL, and […]

10 November 2007

Last night, I attended the bi-weekly networking party of the Librarians of Second Life group.  These social events provide a platform for communication and collaboration.  Last night’s party took place at the TX 950 Club.  As I arrived, I noticed a red carpet rolled out to greet us.  Librarians were dressed in their most glamorous ensembles.  […]

Tonight, I attended an art opening reception on Info Island.  Sponsored by the SL Artslib group, the exhibit features virtual art sculptures created by avatar Mashup Islander.  The event was very unusual and inspiring, as SL art, created by SL building tools, is unlike any other art.   The exhibit will be in place through November 15th.  Here is […]

29 April 2007

Last night, I attended an Art Exhibition created by avatar Daruma Picnic. Daruma’s art is unique because he creates it using SL building/scriping tools. The art is interactive so that the viewer can change colors in many of the pieces of artwork. Outside, he rezzed his Sound Sculpture which creates sounds as […]

Librarians “Friday the 13th” Party

18 April 2007

Last Friday, I attended a party on Cybrary City organized by SL librarians with a “Friday the 13th” focus.  Most people came regular clothes, but I thought it would be fun to come as Morticia.  I also added green hair and glowing green contacts to complete the picture.  Why do librarians have virtual parties?  In […]

Librarian Buzz Mtg on 3-22-07

24 March 2007

Thursday night, at the Cybrary City auditorium, about 30 librarians got together to talk about Library 3.0 with Maxito Ricardo.  Some ideas that I particularly liked from the discussion included:

Web 2.0 is participatory and Web 3.0 is constructive, creative, and engaging
Objects created in virtual reality create an ambient, immersive environment which is different than Web […]

Cybrary City Librarian Party

11 March 2007

Last night, I attended a virtual party for librarians at Cybrary City.  Guests were invited to come dressed as their favorite fantasy character.  There was even a prize for the best-dressed man and woman.  (No, I didn’t win for my costume as Warrior Librarian!)  There was dancing and much conversation.  You may ask, “How does […]
