About the CPS Dept of Libraries in Second Life
The Chicago Public Schools Department of Libraries & Information Services (DLIS) has joined a growing contingency of libraries and educational institutions in the multi-user virtual environment “Second Life”. Visit our Chicago Public Schools Sim at SLURL http://slurl.com/secondlife/Chicago%20Public%20Schools/84/158/22. This sim was provided by a grant from the Illinois State Library.
We support the professional needs of Chicago Public Schools teachers, librarians & administrators by providing a virtual space to access educational resources, collaborate, communicate, and network. Visit our sim to see offices developed by twelve of our schools as well as those of various partner organizations. The centerpiece of the sim is a virtual branch of the CPS professional library. In addition, enjoy the a virtual Lake Michigan lakefront, take a ride in a birchbark canoe on the Chicago River, a Chicago Blues Club, and windsurfing in Lake Michigan.
