Art Reception - Mashup Islander
5 October 2007Tonight, I attended an art opening reception on Info Island. Sponsored by the SL Artslib group, the exhibit features virtual art sculptures created by avatar Mashup Islander. The event was very unusual and inspiring, as SL art, created by SL building tools, is unlike any other art. The exhibit will be in place through November 15th. Here is a description of the event provided in the invitation notecard:
MASHUP ISLANDER / Christopher Dodds is a designer and real-time 3D SL artist. The exhibit will include Mashup’s large scale moiré sculptures. He is undertaking a Masters at RMIT University where his research investigates virtual worlds, art and surveillance. His interest in the virtualisation of art has lead to the formation of The Australian Centre of Virtual Art (ACVA) ¬ an upcoming Second Life gallery complex and archive. Christopher, Adam Nash and Justin Clemens recently won The Australia Council’s inaugural SL Artists in Residence grant. Their interactive installation, Babelswarm, will be launched at ACVA in February 2008. He is a director of Icon.Inc, a design and interactive studio based in Melbourne, and editor at the art-game portal Selectparks.net.
