2007 NECC Conference in Atlanta

24 June 2007

For the next few days, I will be attending ISTE’s National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) in Atlanta, Georgia.  As the incoming chair-elect of the Media Specialists SIG (SIGMS), I look forward to meeting many of SIGMS members.  Also, I will meet many Second Life colleagues at various events - many of whom I have only known as avatars to-date.  I am blogging about my observations at the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) weblog at http://blogs.ala.org/aasl.php.   An SL highlight tonight was at the Opening Reception at the Georgia Aquarium - the largest aquarium in the world.  The reception was attended by thousands of ISTE members and their families.  In the entry hall, an area was set up to demonstrate Second Life.  There was a large monitor and several laptop kiosks where passersby could have some hands-on experiences with SL.  Simultaneously, there as a reception within SL at the ISTE Aquarium.  Avatars within SL could interact with real-life attendees as the reception.  (Flickr pics at http://blogs.ala.org/aasl.php)
